Matrimony - Matrimonio

Never Married

Matrimony is a primary example of a covenant-a binding relationship based not on a feeling but on a freely chosen commitment.” The sacrament of matrimony lets Christ dwell with the couple and gives them strength to love, forgive with Christ at their side. We ask that the newly engaged couple contact the parish office 6 months prior for preparation as required.

Documents required:

Baptismal, First Communion, & Confirmation Certificates for initial appointment.

Previously Married

If you have been married civilly to someone else before other than your current fiancé or married in the Catholic Church, the first step is to schedule an appointment with a Priest to complete an Annulment Form. This document is needed to ensure the previous marriage has been nullified.

For the person who has previously been married, please be sure to bring the following documents to your appointment:
1. Baptismal Certificate newly issued
2. The Marriage License of previous marriage
3. Divorce Decree

*Note that a wedding date cannot be set until an affirmative decision is granted by the Office of Canonical Services.

The preparation classes will take place here at St. Joseph with one of our priest.

Nunca Casado

Marriage

God created man and woman out of love and commanded them to imitate his love in their relations with each other. Man and woman were created for each other…Woman and man are equal in human dignity, and in marriage both are united in an unbreakable bond. (United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, Ch. 21, p. 279)
